Where the heck is Mammoth Lakes?

duckLakeMammoth Lakes, Calif. is nestled on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. With world-class Mammoth Mountain Ski Area at its doorstep, the locale boasts recreational activities of all shapes and sizes. From skiing and riding in the winter to mountain biking and climbing in the summer, and everything in between, Mammoth is a place for outdoor enthusiasts.

Less than a one hour drive from Yosemite, Mammoth and surrounding towns like Lee Vining act as a gateway to this well-known national park. With Yosemite to its north and places like Bishop and Lone Pine to its south, Mammoth is surrounded by landmarks and natural beauty.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is 11,053 feet high, receiving an average of 400 inches of snow each year, and surrounding peaks rise above 12,000 feet. Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States at 14,505 feet can be reached from Lone Pine, mentioned above. On the other hand, Badwater, located in Death Valley and marked as the lowest point in North America, is also within a short drive of Mammoth.

Mammoth is approximately 325 miles north of Los Angeles and 164 miles south of Reno, Nev. It is also about 325 miles east of San Francisco.
